“The book is an occasion to go on the book tour, just as it was for Barack Obama three yeas ago.” “It doesn’t matter what’s in the book,” Pitney says. That’s OK, says Jack Pitney, the political science professor at Claremont McKenna College who predicted six months before the GOP convention that McCain could well pick Palin as his vice presidential running mate. Only 27 of the 407 pages comes under the heading “The Way Forward.” There’s little about policy in the rest of the volume. This book probably isn’t going to do much to change those numbers. The latest Gallup Poll on the subject has 58 percent of Republicans, 28 percent of Independents and 21 percent of Democrats saying they believe Palin is qualified to be president. The polls indicate that Palin has a ways to go to get back into elective office, if that’s her ultimate goal. She uses the book to settle some scores – whether it’s the politicians in Alaska who early on didn’t take her seriously, her ex-brother-in-law, the media or the McCain aides who she clearly believes wouldn’t let Palin be Palin.

Palin has said on her book tour that people will be able to read her words uncensored, unfiltered. “It would be a few more years before I learned that some people make a living and even earn prestigious awards for doing just that.” On, Palin describes a scene in her office in Wasillia when a woman came in to commiserate with her over a rumor that Palin’s daughter was caught smoking pot. Sprinkled throughout the book are passages that put down organized politicians, whether it was when she ran against them in her winning campaign for Wasilla mayor or in her losing effort for lieutenant governor. She talks about being “pro-life enough” for the local Right-To-Life group to use a baby picture of her daughter, Piper, on a poster of theirs that was displayed at the fair…”but I wasn’t politically connected enough for the state GOP machine to allow the organization to endorse me in early campaigns.” On, Palin describes the scene at the Alaska State Fair when she got the call that John McCain was interested in her as his running mate.

Makes you wonder if the darling of conservatives and hockey moms really does plan to make another run at elective office. From the opening pages of Going Rogue, Sarah Palin takes on two groups she seems to love to hate – organized politicians and the media.
